I am simultaneously tired of characters that might be trans women, or are even confirmed trans women, but have no attention paid to this fact either before or after confirmation and off-screen transition, and characters that are 100% trans woman but are just portrayed as cis or cis-passing for the purposes of just being Another Woman Character. There's nothing wrong with these characters, not at all. June Egbert is one of my favorite characters of all time, and she fills both of those archetypes. I just wish that there was more representation of trans women who are actively in the middle of it. Trans women who are trans and women and that matters to them. Who are constantly trying new things and seeing what works for them, who are figuring things out and actively becoming more themself. I want characters who are trans women who care about being trans women, made by people that care about that character being a trans woman. I want to see them going through the process, exploring the world through new eyes, the joy than trans women feel every day that they get to reinvent themselves. Most of the women I know are constantly going through those phases of reinvention and discovery, and have been for years. Transition never ends, because people never stop growing. I want to see the beauty of growth and transfemininity in a character that reflect myself and the women that I meet every day. I'm sure if I tried I might be able to think of a couple examples of characters like that, but it's nowhere near as common as the other two. I'm glad the those other kinds of characters exist, I write a lot of characters like that myself, I just wish there was more.

And to be quite honest, I think it has to be done by a trans woman. However tired I am of characters that are dancing around the point (however little malice that actually entails), I think I'm more tired of TME people depicting trans women. Everybody needs to stop forever, or at least until they can start respecting women.
